We have always encountered users of screw air compressors complaining about water accumulation in the head of the compressor on various forums and platforms, and some of them even appeared in the new machine which has just been used for more than 100 hours, resulting in the head of the compressor being rusted or even jammed and scrapped, which is a huge loss.
First of all, let’s find out why oil-injected screw compressors accumulate water.
Definition of dew point: The temperature to which gaseous water contained in air needs to fall in order to reach saturation and condense into liquid water at a fixed air pressure.
1.The atmosphere contains water vapor, or what we normally call humidity. This water will enter the screw compressor along with the atmosphere.
2.When the screw air compressor machine is running, the dew point of the compressed air will drop with the rise of pressure, but at the same time the compression process will also produce a lot of compression heat. Normal operation of the compressor’s oil temperature is designed to be above 80 ℃, so that the compression heat makes the water in the air volatilized into a gaseous state, and with the compressed air discharged to the back end.
3.If the compressor selection is too large, or the user’s air consumption is very small, the screw machine operating load rate is seriously low, it will lead to long-term oil temperature does not reach 80 ℃ above, or even below the dew point. At this time, the moisture in the compressed air will condense into liquid and remain inside the compressor, mixed with the lubricating oil. At this time, the oil filter and oil separator core will increase the load and rapid failure, in serious cases, the oil will deteriorate, emulsification, resulting in host rotor corrosion stuck.
Solution
1.When selecting equipment, be sure to ask a professional to choose the right power of the air compressor unit.
2.In the case of low air consumption or high humidity screw machine machine shutdown 6 hours after the oil and gas drum condensate drainage, until you see the oil flow out. (Need to be discharged regularly, how often to discharge depending on the use of the screw machine environment to decide)
3.For air-cooled units, you can properly adjust the fan temperature switch and adjust the amount of heat dissipation to pull up the oil temperature; for water-cooled units, you can properly adjust the amount of cooling water intake to ensure the oil temperature of the air compressor. For frequency conversion units, the minimum operating frequency can be raised appropriately to increase the machine speed and improve the operating load.
4.Users with particularly small gas consumption, appropriate emission of regular back-end storage tank pressure, artificially enhance the machine operating load.
5.Use genuine lubricating oil, which has better oil-water separation and is not easy to emulsify. Check the oil level to see if there is any abnormal rise or emulsification of oil before each start-up.
